Setting up Apple Time Machine via AFP

Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) (external link) is Apples own network protocol and thus has the benefit of working more transparently than SMB or NFS, particularly with finicky Apple applications like iTunes.

Once mounted the share can be used transparently with Time Machine.

NOTE Not having yet done this process I may be assuming too much. It may be that all of the steps in Setting up Apple Time Machine via SMB need to be followed substituting in AFP specific commands.
